Playground surfacing
Surfacing is an integral part of any playground development; it can add play value and is often essential for a play area to meet the requirements of BS EN 1176 and BS EN 1177.
Pennine Playgrounds offer a wide range of playground surfacing solutions that are all-weather, low maintenance and suitable for use in schools, public parks and commercial attractions. There are many options to choose from and our playground experts will work with you to establish the most appropriate surfacing for your design, site and budget.
Independently tested
Each of our playground safety surfacing options has been designed by our in-house team of experts and provides safety for a wide range of outdoor playground equipment, with a focus on minimising the risk of injury by offering impact-absorbing qualities.
All of our playground surfacing options have been independently tested in accordance with BS EN 1177.
Flexiplay wet pour
Flexiplay wet pour surfacing is created from rubber granules and polyurethane binder. The base layer is made from recycled tyre rubber with a top layer of EPDM rubber granules that can be used to create colourful designs. It is laid by hand onto an engineered sub-base or existing asphalt and offers a continuous smooth surface with porous properties.
Fleximulch bonded rubber mulch
Fleximulch bonded rubber mulch is created from recycled forklift truck tyres that are shredded to appear like wood bark chippings, then bonded together with a polyurethane binder. This blend is then installed to create a seamless playground floor with no loose particles. It is laid by hand onto an engineered sub-base, existing asphalt, or if site conditions allow, directly onto existing grass.
Grass mats
Grass mats are a recycled rubber mat with a honeycomb structure that can be laid directly onto flat or contoured grassed areas. The grass grows through within a few weeks of installation, providing a safe, durable and low-maintenance playground surfacing option.
Thermoplastic Playground markings
Thermoplastic playground markings are a maintenance-free and cost-effective way to add colour, vibrancy and educational value to your play area. We offer a variety of unique designs covering various learning concepts that encourage physical activity and exercise. These innovative graphics can be quickly installed with minimal disruption and are ready to use in just 30 minutes!
