A play area campaign prompted Woodhouse and Spring Bank residents to take a greater interest in future uses for all derelict land in their neighbourhood.
Residents involved in the Keighley Big Local regeneration programme have already secured £30,000 of lottery funding to be spent in the 2017/18 financial year.
But they were dismayed to find that one potential play site, near to Hainworth Wood Community Centre, could instead be used for housing.
This triggered the residents’ interest in the whole issue of land allocation, and alerted them to Bradford Council’s consultation on its Development Plan for the district.
Council officers visited the community centre to brief residents on how they could make comments on the proposed plan, which set out acceptable uses for each piece of land.
