Urgent and Sustained Investment Needed
The Nowhere 2 Play Campaign reveals new research and the extent of a childhood crisis. As a result to the recent decline in playground closures, Pennine Playgrounds and the API are calling for Matt Hancock MP, Secretary of State, to commit urgently required funds into the industry.
The Nowhere2Play campaign
The campaign run by the API, has discovered that between 2014 & 2018 local authorities have closed 347 playgrounds across England. There is a significant and continued decline in the number of children’s playgrounds in England. The continued closure of England’s playgrounds persists and we are lobbying government to secure funding for our children.
A recent survey with Mumsnet was carried out, ‘Play Must Stay’, with over 50% of parents saying that their children would be more active if they had access to more playgrounds. As a result, almost three quarters of parents said the lack of playgrounds had impacted on their children’s health issues.
