Parkwood School, Keighley

Julie Butler approached us last year to design a play solution for her unusable steep grassed embankment which was constantly out of bounds for the children. We have previously worked with Julie on a number of other play schemes and it was great to be invited back to work her team. Natural play was the remit, so the challenge began! Our design team incorporated a tubular stainless embankment slide with access steps, as well as a fantastic climbing rope for a really challenging access up the slope. Noah’s ark was sited at the top of the area for role play adventures. An outdoor classroom was created in log seating, which cut into the embankment.

Mrs Butler, Headteacher commented… “After a year of planning it is wonderful to have the new play area at Parkwood. We love the new resources as they encourage play that is stimulating and exciting and allow children to encounter and learn about risk.

Since installing the new equipment there has been no evidence of anti-social behaviour in the school grounds.

We are all delighted with the Noah’s Ark and how well it blends in with our landscape. It has to be seen to be really appreciated and offers so many different play experiences. Children from Nursery to Year 6 all love to play aboard the Ark which has also doubled as a Pirate and Viking ship”
